TORONTO, Oct. 6, 2026 /CNW/ -- Amid continued global uncertainty and the call for national sovereignty, trade diversification, and strengthened infrastructure and defence capabilities, the need for bold, sustained action towards reconciliation has never been greater. Today, Deloitte Canada released Expanding Horizons: Year-six Reconciliation Action Plan Update, a report outlining the progress across the Firm's efforts to amplify Indigenous voices, strengthen relationships with Indigenous Peoples, communities and organizations, and support Indigenous-led economic futures.
"Reconciliation is not only one of the most important commitments of our firm but also one of the most important opportunities for Canada in this moment" says Anthony Viel, CEO, Deloitte Canada and Chile. "With humility, purpose, and determination, we remain steadfast in advancing meaningful change, fostering lasting partnerships, and helping build a more prosperous and sustainable future for Indigenous Peoples and all Canadians."
Deloitte continues to build on the milestone of becoming the first professional services firm in Canada to achieve Gold-level certification through the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business's (CCIB) Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) program. This year's report highlights the launch of the Bridges of Belonging Indigenous buddy program and Roots & Relations Indigenous onboarding program, alongside expanded Indigenous-led learning opportunities through the Indigenous Learning Series. Together, these initiatives help foster a stronger sense of belonging, deepen cultural understanding, and support the growth and success of Indigenous professionals across the business.
"Our ability to advance reconciliation starts from within," said Dean Janvier, Partner and Reconciliation Action Plan Ambassador. "By embedding reconciliation into our firm's culture and supporting Indigenous talent, we are continuously improving our firm's ability to support Indigenous reconciliation while making meaningful contributions and impacts to support the growth of the broader Canadian economy."
Economic reconciliation remains central to Deloitte's approach to advancing shared prosperity and supporting Indigenous self-determination, leadership, and long-term economic success. Over the past year, the firm exceeded its 5% Indigenous procurement target, continued investment and expansion for R8dius, supported Indigenous Nations and organizations through the Nation Building Advisory practice, and advanced thought leadership and dialogue on Indigenous economic prosperity. Collectively, these efforts are helping to advance meaningful growth for Indigenous businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities.
Deloitte's commitment to reconciliation also extends to supporting the next generation of Indigenous leaders. Through sponsorships, volunteer initiatives, and pro bono support, the firm reached more than 10,000 Indigenous youth. This year, Deloitte sponsored more than 20 participants in Indigenous Youth Roots' (IYR) Indigenous Youth Advocacy Week and supported the development of an Indigenous youth-led policy toolkit, helping young people influence the policies that shape their futures. The firm also supported more than 20 recipients of Indspire's Building Brighter Futures scholarship program in 2025-26, bringing the total number of students supported since 2017 to 176. As lead corporate sponsor of Indspire Soaring, Deloitte helped engage more than 1,500 Indigenous high school students across Canada to explore post-secondary options. These investments are expanding access to education, advocacy, and opportunity for future generations of Indigenous leaders.
"Canada's long-term economic prosperity also depends on creating opportunities for the next generation," says Anne-Marie Ethier, Partner, Member of the Board of Deloitte Canada and Chile, and Reconciliation Action Plan ambassador. "By investing in Indigenous youth today, we are helping equip tomorrow's leaders to shape a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous future for all."
While progress is not always linear and important work remains, Deloitte will continue listening, learning, and working alongside First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples to expand opportunity, advance shared prosperity, and help create lasting change for generations to come.
